The Aerofly FS flight simulators for desktop (Windows, Mac & Linux) and mobile (Android and iOS) now have built-in support for FSWidgets apps to get position data directly from the sim, without the need for any additional software or plugins.
These are the apps that are currently supported:
See our dedicated Aerofly Page for more details.
To enable FSWidgets support, follow these steps:
* Note: No other "Broadcast" options are required (i.e. Windows, macOS & Linux versions of the sim).
Aerofly FS will send the data from the desktop or mobile device IP Address where the sim is running (via port 58585) and this is where the FSWidgets app will connect to after you add those details to the app settings.
On the desktop (Windows & Mac), one option is to check the Aerofly FS tm.log file (see Wiki). For the IP address being used by the sim, look for line mentioning flightinfo_fswidgets.
This is how to directly get the IP address on each platform where the sim is running:
Open the System Settings, then click on Network.
Click Wi-Fi and then click the Details... button. The IP address will be listed at the bottom.
Open a Command Prompt window (search for Command Prompt in Windows Search box) and type:
ipconfig /allThen press the Enter key.
The output will list various settings, the one you need is the IPv4 address:
C:\>ipconfig /all
Windows IP Configuration
IPv4 Address . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.2 <---- This is it!Advanced Tip: To show only the line that has the IPv4 address, run this command:
ipconfig /all | findstr IPv4Open the Settings app on the iOS device that runs the sim.
Tap the Wi-Fi menu on the left.
Tap the (i) icon to the right of the Wi-Fi network you are currently connected to (the one with the tick mark).
Under IPV4 Address, note the IP Address listed under that section.
Open the Settings Android device that runs the sim.
Tap Wi-Fi or Connections.
Tap the Wi-Fi network you are currently connected to.
Note the IP Address listed in that section.
If you are having trouble connecting here are some things to check:
Double-check the IP address and port number entered in the FSWidgets app settings. Make sure there are no typo errors, make sure the IP address is still the same.
Routers will often assign the IP address dynamically. On rebooting the computer or the router the IP address of the PC could change so you may need to check the IP address again from time to time.
Check the device (PC/tablet/phone) running the app is on the same Wi-Fi network as the desktop running the simulator. Some devices can connect to a separate "guest" network or even mobile data instead of the home Wi-Fi.
Delete all references to the Aerofly simulator in the Windows or Mac Firewall. This will generate a new Security dialog the next time you run the sim which allows you to answer Unblock which refreshes the settings. This usually clears out any blocking issues.
More detailed steps on how to clear Firewall settings can be found here:
Additional Notes:
The Windows link above discusses the FSWidgets Connect utility, but the same principle applies to deleting references to the Aerofly simulator in the Windows Firewall.
Some 3rd-party firewalls (AVAST, Norton, etc.) impose additional, stricter rules on top of or instead of the default Windows Firewall so you may need to explicitly allow the connection via that product's whitelist or settings.
